Sarath has professional mechanical engineering qualifications from Sri Lanka, which NZQA assessed to be equivalent to a Bachelor of Engineering. He worked as a mechanical engineer for 18 years before moving to New Zealand in 1997 and completing additional fire engineering qualifications here.

Away from work, Sarath enjoys turning his mind to less mechanical interests, such as religious studies, politics, animals and natural science.

“I particularly enjoy analysing problems to get to the heart of the challenge. From there I can use my experience in fire protection systems and knowledge of New Zealand legislation to design the most appropriate cost effective engineering solutions.”
